FHT expert adviser and accredited course provider, Cameron Reid, offers an introduction to assessing and treating low back pain
The lumbar spine gets a fair amount of criticism for being the area that causes the most pain and disability. This is perhaps not surprising when we consider some of the mind-boggling statistics associated with back pain, such as:
- 80 per cent of people will experience low back pain at some point during their life;
- The NHS spends more than £1 billion on the consultation and treatment of back pain annually and a further £565 million is spent in the private sector (Back Show, 2014);
- During any one year, up to half of adults will suffer back pain, lasting for at least 24 hours; and
- l All this pain comes at a cost of five million working days to industry.
